The Head of Finance provides effective financial leadership to grow value responsibly, in a profitable and sustainable manner. With the CEO, the Head of Finance sets the tone for management to foster ethical and responsible decision making, appropriate management and corporate governance practices. The Head of Finance is also responsible for reporting accurate financial information in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ("GAAP"). The Head of Finance is responsible for Coinbase Ireland' financial condition, and will oversee the formation of the capital structure of the company, with careful attention to managing risk and maintaining liquidity.  The Head of Finance will be responsible for the company's economic and financial forecasting and planning. The Head of Finance shall report to both the Chief Executive Officer of Coinbase Ireland ("CEO") and the Chief Financial Officer in Coinbase Inc ("CFO").

This role is a pre-approval controlled function ("PCF") as defined by Section 21 of the Central Bank Reform Act, 2010:
  • PCF-11 Head of Finance

All PCF candidates must satisfy Fitness and Probity requirements as specified by Coinbase Ireland and the Central Bank of Ireland before they can be formally appointed to the role.


What you'll be doing:
  • Working with the CEO and CFO to ensure the development of a strategic plan for Coinbase Ireland to maximise shareholder value and recommend it to the Board for review and, in the Board's discretion, approval
  • Ensure the development of an annual operating plan including business plans, operational requirements, organisational structure, staffing and budgets that support the strategic plan and recommend the annual operating plan to the Board for review and, in the Board's discretion, approval
  • Ensure the implementation of the annual operating plan and direct and monitor the activities and resources of Coinbase Ireland, consistent with the strategic direction, financial limits and operating objectives approved by the Board
  • Ensure Coinbase Ireland maintains an appropriate capital structure to support its annual operating plans and strategic plans
  • Ensure Coinbase Ireland has sufficient liquidity to implement the agreed business plans;  
  • Effectively manage the supporting finance team at Coinbase Inc
  • Communicate in a timely fashion with the Board, and Senior Management on material financial and accounting matters affecting Coinbase Ireland
  • Communicate regularly with the Board, and Senior Management to ensure that these responsibilities are being fully complied with and that Directors are being provided with information necessary to fulfil their responsibilities and statutory obligations
  • Provide general supervision and management of the day-to-day financial and accounting affairs of Coinbase Ireland within the guidelines established by the Board, consistent with decisions requiring prior approval of the Board and the Board's expectations of management
  • Maintain proper books of account and ensure they correctly record and explain the transactions of Coinbase Ireland and at any time, enable the financial position of the Coinbase Ireland to be determined with reasonable accuracy, that the balance sheet and profit and loss account comply with all applicable accounting standards, and enable the accounts to be readily and properly audited
  • Ensure that Coinbase Ireland satisfies any initial capital requirements and on-going capital requirements as required by Central Bank of Ireland
  • Ensure the Coinbase Ireland has adequate arrangements in place to safeguard the funds of Coinbase Ireland Customers
  • Ensure Coinbase Ireland financial reports are prepared efficiently and accurately and submitted to the Central Bank of Ireland, Companies House and any other regulatory or oversight body, at the frequency specified to Coinbase Ireland and within the specified timeframes
  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, integrity and appropriate disclosure of the Company's financial statements, other financial information and other continuous disclosure through appropriate policies and procedures
  • Ensure that Coinbase Ireland has complied with all regulatory requirements for the Company's financial information, reporting, disclosure requirements and internal controls over financial reporting
  • Provide required regulatory certifications regarding Coinbase Ireland and its activities
  • Provide leadership to management in support of the Company's commitment to social and community responsibility
  • Foster ethical and responsible decision making by Management
  • Along with Senior Management, establish and facilitate the continuation of a compliance culture within Coinbase Ireland to help minimise the risk of regulatory failure and potential resultant sanctions and financial and reputational damage
  • Maintain awareness of standards of conduct through regular consultation with the business and external information providers
  • Keep abreast of sound compliance practices and in particular take into account the requirements of the European Communities (Electronic Money) Regulations 2011, as amended; European Union (Payment Services) Regulations 2018; Central Bank's Industry Funding Levy; various reporting requirements of the Central Bank; and Companies Act 2014.


What we look for in you:
  • A professional financial qualification, and membership of a recognised professional body, is a prerequisite ( ACA, GCA, CMA, ACCA, or CPA with experience in senior management )
  • 10+ years of experience in a finance role within a regulated financial services business
  • Previous PCF-11 Central Bank of Ireland approved person
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of business functions, with an emphasis on senior management
  • Excellent oral and written communication - fluency in English is a key requirement
  • Track record of building strong relationships with Boards, Senior Management and Regulators
  • Capacity to meet deadlines while maintaining quality standards and effective time management
  • Leadership - voice concerns, challenges, and roadmap for Europe
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced remote environment
