As such, we are looking for an experienced compliance professional in the financial technology space who has strong executive experience, a passionate vision and the leadership skills to drive vision into reality.

Coinbase is looking for a Chief Accounting Officer to be a key executive of financial operations for our rapidly growing company. Partnering directly with the CFO, the Chief Accounting Officer will be responsible for providing executive level technical accounting expertise, ownership and improvement of financial processes, and development of a high performing accounting team. The CAO must be a hands-on, roll up your sleeves type of leader and should enjoy a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee all global accounting functions
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial statement preparation and reporting
  • Design, build, implement and test a robust public company grade financial control environment capable of meeting SOX requirements
  • Develop, implement and upgrade financial systems as necessary
  • Act as annual external audit liaison for all global audits
  • Prepare internal and external financial reporting for management, the BOD, and for external service partners
  • Ensure appropriate resources and staffing of the department to meet business needs
  • Prepare company to meet public company reporting requirements
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of US GAAP and possibly SEC reporting requirements
  • Represent the accounting function in M&A analysis and integration
  • Oversee special projects as assigned

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and CPA certification
  • 15+ yrs public accounting and industry experience, most recently as a CAO or Global Corporate Controller
  • Multi-entity, multi-geo, multi-currency experience in a high growth company
  • History of developing and implementing accounting policies, procedures, controls and financial reporting requirements
  • Expert in highly technical accounting areas
  • Strong management and leadership skills
  • Ability to drive projects to completion, manage competing priorities and provide guidance to the team and business on prioritization
  • Strong management and leadership skills
  • Proven track record of cross functional relationships across the organization
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Success in a fast-paced, startup environment
  • Financial Services industry experience a plus

Preferred
  • Accounting team building and payments related startup experience.  
  • Reporting experience and data proficiency (SQL/Looker) a big plus.  
  • ERP implementation and control environment design and implementation
