Job Description


IOG, creator of the Cardano blockchain platform, is searching for an experienced Software Engineer to join our Goguen team, working specifically on Marlowe. The team is developing a language, Marlowe, for financial contracts on Cardano. Marlowe is implemented in Haskell, Plutus, and PureScript. This role is to develop implementations of contracts based on the Actus standard in Marlowe, and to liaise with external partners, including the Actus foundation. In the longer term, it is envisaged that you will work with other partners and clients on financial products.

Your mission

We are searching for a strong team player with excellent communication skills because this role will require liaison with external collaborators. You will be a strong engineer with functional programming skills, ideally in Haskell but Scala and OCaml will also be considered. Extensive. knowledge of and/or experience in the financial sector would be highly beneficial.

In your day-to-day duties you will:
  • Follow agile software development practices
  • Work with teams across time zones
  • Work independently on software development tasks
  • Be proactive and require minimal supervision or mentoring to complete tasks
  • Review specifications produced by architects and formal methods specialists
  • Contribute to the design of algorithms
  • Write clean, straightforward, efficient code that satisfies acceptance criteria and specifications
  • Commit often and submit small pull requests frequently
  • Cover your code with unit, property and integration tests when applicable
  • Review the pull requests of your team mates
  • Fix bugs in your own code and in legacy code from others
  • Be available for emergency fixing of severe issues on deployed products
  • Integrate software components and third-party libraries
  • Verify and deploy programs and systems
  • Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade software
  • Write documentation for the code
  • Write technical user manuals
  • Improve your knowledge of distributed and concurrent computation
  • Improve your knowledge of the basics of cryptography.


Your expertise

  • Experience with Haskell
  • Experience within the financial sector is a big advantage
  • Able to work on a complex system and have an aptitude for simplifying complexities
  • Good communication skills, both written and spoken.



IOG is a fully distributed organization and therefore this is a remote position. For this role we ask that applicants are available to work effectively with the team based in UTC+2 to UTC-3 time zones.
